Halloween has always been very popular with adults. But over the last decade, the level of participation by adults has grown tremendously. Of course there’s a very good reason for this. This popularity goes far beyond helping the kids select their costumes and handing out treats. Halloween can be the one night of the year where adults, men and women alike, can dress up as any character they want, and have their persona excepted.

More and more adults are dressing up in their favorite costumes, even when staying inside their homes and handing out treats at the door. Many are even going trick or treating themselves and having a lot of fun out on the streets. At work, it’s becoming more and more popular for companies to hold Halloween parties. Employees are also allowed or even encouraged by the management to wear costumes at work, as part of the Halloween spirit. Even night clubs are getting into the act, with contests for the best costumes being held during this occasion. A lot of pretty hefty prizes for the best costumed person or couple.

But most of all, it has also become a social event for donning their costumes and heading to Halloween parties, and generally have fun. Whether at someone’s home, local night clubs or the office, just about everyone enjoys the Halloween festivities. The most popular years are when Halloween falls on either a Friday or Saturday for obvious reasons.

Halloween may be traditionally a time for ghouls, goblins, ghosts, and monsters to come out into the night, but it has also become a sexy and naughty holiday for adults. It has now become commonplace to see adults wearing costumes as enthralling witches and seductive lady vampires, and of course, one cannot forget Elvira, the Mistress of the Dark herself. Couples have also made Halloween their favorite time to dress up together as characters in fantasy, fairy tales, or anyone and anything else they would like to be. There are countless possibilities for creative and imaginative couples to enjoy this holiday.

And why not? After all, Halloween has developed a reputation for being the one time of the year when anything goes, allowing people to live out fantasies, if only for this one night. The social freedom of Halloween gives people who are normally stressed out and/or emotionally restrained a chance to “let loose”, get spooky, scary, naughty and even sexy without being judged. It’s simply an assumed persona for a night of celebration.

Every year that passes sees more and more grown-ups dressing up in costumes for a night of fun and celebration during Halloween. According to a 2005 survey, more than seventy-five percent of adults who participate in Halloween are going to wear a costume as part of their Halloween merrymaking.
