What to Look for When Hiring a Wedding Photographer
Filed Under Wedding Planning | Comments Off

After the flowers have died, the cake has been eaten, the guests have all gone home, and the honeymoon is over, your wedding photos will help keep your happy day alive for you by preserving those magical memories forever. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the rest of the wedding planning, finding an affordable and talented wedding photographer can be a daunting task. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when hunting for the perfect shutterbug.
Can you work well with your prospective photographer? You want your personalities to be compatible, so make sure to find someone you feel comfortable with. You may want to consider asking a close friend or family member to use their skills as a wedding gift. It is important to keep in mind that not just anyone with a camera has the appropriate level of skill to shoot the most important day of your life. Ask to see a portfolio. Examine their aesthetics and style to see if it meshes with your own ideas. You can test the waters by asking the candidate to shoot engagement photos, giving you the opportunity to see how well you work together as well as a chance to measure their talent and test their artistry. However, it is important to remind yourself that if you are going to use an amateur photographer, don’t be surprised if the results don’t live up to your expectations. Hire a professional if it is within your budget.
Ask for recommendations from your friends or family who have recently been married. Comparison shop by visiting local studios and asking to see portfolios. When interviewing a prospective choice, inquire about the types of cameras or special effects they will be able to offer. Make sure to ask if they have backup equipment they can use if their regular set happens to fail at an inopportune moment.
Discuss your budget with the photographer you choose and see if they can work with you if their prices are outside your set cost limit. Make certain that you understand the price package and everything it contains. This includes the actual hours the photographer will be working as well as the time they will spend developing prints after the wedding and creating wedding albums.
Make a list of the specific shots you want before your wedding day. If you can, visit the sites you plan to use with your photographer ahead of time, preferably at roughly the time of day when you intend to shoot. Discuss the time you want your photographer to arrive and the time they will be finished shooting. Little decisions made ahead of time will save you money and energy when you are distracted by enjoying the actual wedding itself.
The biggest regret most people feel after their wedding adventure concludes is that they are not satisfied with the wedding photographs. Investing some time into researching local studios or photographers as well as understanding a bit about how photography works will help you in your quest to find the perfect person to capture your special day.

How to Select Music for your Wedding Reception
Filed Under Wedding Planning | Comments Off
The soundtrack of your wedding is going to play a large role in setting the mood for your reception. It is important to choose something that your guests will enjoy and that you and your husband-to-be will feel comfortable with. If your wedding has a theme, be sure to choose music that aligns well with it. For example, oldies and indie music would complement a vintage style wedding.
Decide whether you will create your own play list using your iPod, a DJ or a band for your wedding music. Each provides its own positives and negatives, and your budget and personal preference will help you decide what’s right for you. A band provides an experience for your guests, but can set you back quite a bit of money. Good bands are expensive and difficult to find. Begin looking for a band months in advance and do a little research by attending a show and hit the message boards to find out what other brides thought of them. If you choose a DJ, make sure you are clear with them about their responsibilities and the types of music you like and don’t like. Finally, though creating a playlist on your iPod provides a similar experience to that of a DJ, it puts more on your plate. You will need to find someone to man it, and create a backup plan in case there is a malfunction on the big day.
Once you’ve chosen who will provide your music, you will have to decide on a few songs. Remember that your wedding day is generally divided into 3 parts; the ceremony, the dinner and the reception. You will want to try to choose different songs for each.
For your reception, it is wise to talk to the officiant or priest about your selections. If you want to go a nontraditional route and use popular songs during your ceremony, make sure the church is ok with that. Don’t feel confined to one type of music, many brides are mixing and matching contemporary songs with traditional ones. Choose something that you, your husband-to-be and the officiant or priest are all comfortable with.
When choosing the music for dinner, try to make selections light and upbeat. Avoid dance types of songs until the end of the night. It is wise to keep the slow, ballad songs to a minimum as well. A few are ok, as long as some more upbeat songs are included as well. You don’t want your guests falling asleep at dinner.
Finally, the music at your reception should be the kind of music people can dance to. Keep in mind the types of people at your wedding, if it is mostly an older group you may not want to play modern rap songs. Many brides ask their guests to choose the soundtrack by sending in song requests with their RSVP cards.
The type of music you choose for your wedding can have a large impact on your guests’ overall experience at the wedding. Make it a positive one by making careful selections. Often brides tie in their wedding songs to the wedding favors by handing out a mixed cd with the couple’s initials on it. Make your wedding your own, no matter what your budget by choosing a wedding soundtrack you are proud of.

Wedding Prep for Your Hair Skin and Teeth
Filed Under Wedding Planning | Comments Off

If you’re about to take the plunge and step into a new life with your soul mate you’ve probably spent a lot of time carefully planning the big day. Amongst arrangements for the dress, the flowers, and the music you’ll eventually get to the point where you begin to plan your personal routine for the week or so prior to the wedding. To avoid bringing a something blotchy among your “something borrowed, something blue, something old, and something new” to the wedding day, prepping your personal hygiene will be an important step. The following are a few tips to help you get ready and feel confident.
- Get a haircut a week before the wedding. Scheduling any haircutting and coloring during this time will allow both color and cut to set and look more natural. This will also give you enough time to do damage control if for some reason you are the unfortunate recipient of a bad haircut.
- Watch what you eat. Avoiding a blemish on the big day is going to save both your sanity and your wedding photos. Try to avoid fried foods, highly processed products, or anything with sugar or caffeine, as all of these can cause acne. Otherwise stick to the diet you normally have, don’t make any major changes, and be healthy.
- Eat the right foods. Being careful about what you consume isn’t just about avoiding foods that are bad for your hair and skin. Eating foods like carrot, fish, and berries provides you with beta-carotene, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, respectively.
- De-stress with a self-care day. One of the most important factors affecting your happiness (and keeping your skin wrinkle free) is to ensure you are feeling relaxed and having a good time. The rigors of planning, organizing, and seeing to fruition a beautiful wedding are bound to take a toll on your well being. Taking a moment to hit the spa with your bridesmaids (or maybe just your maid of honor) can do wonders to rejuvenate you. If you don’t have time for the spa, consider at least making space each day the week before your wedding to do some gentle movement like yoga or take a long hot bath.
- About a month before the wedding day, either do teeth whitening treatments or see a dentist. If you choose to get your teeth professionally whitened, be sure to schedule it several months ahead of time so that you will get an appointment. If you do a home whitening kit, pay special attention to your progress as you want to avoid over-whitening.
- Deep condition your hair. This will make your locks easier to work with when you meet with your stylist the day of the wedding. Doing this once a week for a few weeks before the wedding and the day before you see you have your hair done will ensure that your hair will look great on your big day.

Wedding Day Style: Limo or Vintage Car?
Filed Under Wedding Planning | Comments Off
You no doubt have a lot of decisions to make when it comes to your wedding day preparations, and the car you’ll arrive and depart in may be the least of them. You have to book a venue (or two, if the ceremony and reception won’t be held at the same locale), arrange for a catering service to feed everyone, find places for out-of-town guests to stay, select the perfect photographer to memorialize your special day, and of course, you have the arduous task of finding the perfect dress ahead of you. So arranging for transportation may be at the end of an extensive list of to-dos. However, you shouldn’t neglect this seemingly minute detail. After all, some of your best photo ops will occur immediately following the “I dos”. How about that classic shot of you and your new spouse driving away with “Just Married” stamped on your bumper? So once you’ve got your ducks in a row, take a moment to consider just which style of transportation will make for the best getaway car (so to speak).
There are plenty of options when it comes to wedding transportation, from automobiles to aircraft to a horse and buggy. But unless you want to spend an arm and a leg on locomotion (when that extra cash could go towards your honeymoon), perhaps you should stick to cars. In this arena there are two great areas to choose from; limos and vintage cars; and each has something to offer the happy couple on their day of bliss.
Limos are fairly traditional. They symbolize style, class, and wealth, all of which are auspicious on your wedding day. In addition, they may be a bit more practical than the alternative simply because of their size. If you’re looking to tote the entire wedding party from place to place, then there are few better ways to squeeze bridesmaids, moms, sisters, and other relatives into one car than by ordering a stretch limo. Also, they are easy to find. Although the cost may be a bit steep, you should find no shortage of limo services in your area, even if you don’t happen to live in an urban center.
Classic cars, on the other hand, may not be so easy to secure. You’ll likely have to contact dealers, restorers, or specialty rental shops in order to find a gorgeous, restored vintage automobile, and even then, you might not be able to find a particular make and model. Plus, the price will likely be similar to renting a limo, so the cost issue is a wash. However, there is definitely something to be said for the absolute style of driving off into the sunset with your honey in a bathtub Porsche, a convertible Mustang, or an early model Rolls Royce (can’t you just picture the perfect photos?). And it’s a really unique way to put your own personal stamp on your wedding day, which makes any additional hassle seem well worth the trouble.
There is, of course, a third option. If you simply can’t decide between two equally appealing choices, you could always go with a vintage limousine! You’ll kill two birds with one stone by selecting a vehicle that not only exudes the class and luxury of a limo (complete with extra seating) but also gives you that something extra that only a vintage car can provide.
